Galileo-Xu Guangqi Meetings
First Galileo-Xu Guangqi Meeting
The inaugural meeting celebrated the International Year of Astronomy and four centuries since Galileo’s first astronomical observations with a telescope.

Meeting Overview
The First Galileo-Xu Guangqi Meeting took place in Shanghai from October 26 to 30, 2009, during the International Year of Astronomy. It celebrated the 400th anniversary of Galileo Galilei’s use of the telescope to study the Universe.
The scientific program connected observations of the Sun, stars and the Universe with general relativity. Morning, afternoon and evening sessions covered large-scale structure, gravitational waves and gravitational physics, bringing together researchers from China and the international astrophysics community.
The proceedings appeared in the International Journal of Modern Physics D, volume 20, number 10 (2011), edited by David Blair, Jing Yi Peng, Remo Ruffini and She Sheng Xue.
