From a Fruitful to a Plentiful Run: the Transition from O2 to O3 | |||||
Coauthors | ||||||||
Abstract |
The first and second observing runs of the ground-based gravitational wave detectors in their advanced configurations led to groundbreaking detections and science. The LIGO and Virgo instruments are currently being upgraded in preparation of the third observing run, O3, scheduled to take place in 2019. The talk will discuss the evolution of the detector network, sensitivity targets, and science prospects for O3. The upcoming run will allow to explore deeper the rich science of compact binary coalescences, develop the emerging multi-messenger astronomy, and possibly observe new types of sources. |
