Follow-up efforts of multi-messenger events and observational strategies with the MAGIC telescopes | |||||

Abstract |
The recent discovery of gravitational waves by the LIGO/Virgo Collaboration and the diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux detected by the IceCube Collaboration at high energies constitute the case for multi-messenger campaigns in astronomy. Detection of very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-rays associated with these messengers would help to pinpoint their origin and give us deeper insight into the high energy Universe. The two MAGIC telescopes make use of the imaging atmospheric Cherenkov technique to observe the night sky at VHE from about 50 GeV to 50 TeV. Their light structure and hardware performance allow them to observe fast transients with low energy thresholds, making them perfect follow-up instruments for current multi-messenger campaigns. |
