Travel

The best way to travel to Israel is by air.

Venue

The Meeting will be held at the Givat Ram Campus of the Hebrew University, Jerusalem.

Climate and Clothing

The weather in Jerusalem in the month of June is sunny and dry. Temperatures range from 15oC at night to 25oC during the day. Dress will be informal throughout the Meeting.

Visas

Participants from most countries do not require a visa, but we suggest that you check with your local travel agent. Individuals from countries without diplomatic relations with Israel should write to the Secretariat at least 2-3 months in advance, giving their full name, date and place of birth, passport number and date of issue, time of arrival and flight number. The Secretariat will arrange for a visa to be issued at the airport upon arrival.

Currency

The unit of currency in Israel is the New Israeli Shekel (NIS), commonly known as the Shekel, which consists of 100 Agorot. NIS 3.15 = US $1.

Banks

The majority of banks are open Sunday - Thursday, 08:30 - 12:30, Fridays 08:30 - 12:00 and 16:00 - 17:30 Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. All banks are closed on Saturday.

Shops

In Israel’s major cities, shops are open from 9:00 in the morning until 19:00 in the evening, with an afternoon break between 13:00 and 15:00 Sunday through Thursday. Shops usually close around 14:00 on Friday.

Credit Cards

Major credit cards are accepted in most shops, restaurants and hotels, including Visa, Mastercard, Eurocard, American Express and Diners Club.

Accompanying Persons

Special programs will be arranged for accompanying persons during the Meeting.

Touring Israel

Pre- and Post-Meeting tours can be arranged for those interested in touring Israel and neighboring countries.

Sabbath

Saturday is a day of rest in Israel.

Restaurants

As a country which has absorbed immigrants from nearly all parts of the world, Israel has a wide variety of culinary traditions. Oriental restaurants abound, featuring Middle-Eastern cuisine.

Telephones

All public phones take phone cards (Telecards). International calls can be made from any public phone by using a long distance calling card or through the International Operator.
